I will show you all novels in Korean that I bought since I started learning Korean.
(1) 용의자 X의 헌신 (The Devotion of Suspect X)
갈릴레오 시리즈 #3 (Galileo Series No. 3)
writen by 히가시노 게이고 Keigo Higashino
translated by 양억관 Yang Eok-kwan
published by 현대문학 Hyeondae Munhak
We already know who killed the victim, who made the alibi to protect the real killer, the question is how.
(2) 세상의 중심에서 사랑을 외치다 (Crying Out Love in the Middle of the World)
written by 카타야마 쿄이치 Kyoichi Katayama
translated by 안중식 An Jungsik
published by 지식여행 Jisik Yeohaeng
It’s a sweet but sad story about first love of a 15-year-old boy with a girl who died. I haven’t watched the movie.
(3) 창가의 토토 (Totto-Chan: The Little Girl at the Window)
written by 구로야나기 테츠코 Tetsuko Kuroyanagi
translation by 김난주 Kim Nanju
illustration by 이와사키 치히로 Chihiro Iwasaki
published by 프로메테우스출판사 Prometeus Publishing
It’s a story about Totto-chan (the author) when she was a student of an alternative school called Tomoe Gakuen.
The rest is e-books I purchased on impulse from Google Play Books because they were cheap.
(4) 악기들의 도서관 (The Library of Musical Instruments)
written by 김중혁 Kim Jung-hyeok
I think… it’s a collection of short stories.
(5) 불량 가족 레시피 (The Recipe of Bad Family)
written by 손현주 Son Hyeon-ju
I haven’t started reading this one. I know that it won a literary award for youth, and it’s about a messed-up family with strong characters. If I’m not mistaken there was a movie or drama based on this book.
(6) 꽃미남 라면가게 (Cool Guys, Hot Ramen)
written by 이민영, 윤난중 (원작시나리오) Lee Min-yeong & Yoon Nan-joong (for original scenario)
published by oh boy
This is the novelized version of a Korean drama… that I haven’t watched.
I’m a slow reader and I read Korean novels to study words so I will be reading them even more slowly. I can’t even guarantee that I will ever finish one but I’ll try.
Yesterday I started re-reading book no. 2: 세상의 중심에서 사랑을 외치다. I read it last year but I never finished the book because I got tired of numerous unknown words I found in it and I moved on to read a Korean textbook for the sake of my sanity.
I was a little down because all difficult words then were still unfamiliar words for me even after 2 years. Not quick enough to review, I guess. But I think being sad about forgotten words is like being sad about rain. Like it or not, rain falls anyway. Those words are forgotten anyway. I’ll just re-learn them until they stick to my brain. ###
