Pen with Hangul on It

Pen with hangul on it.

When my family went to see my sister off at the Sukarno-Hatta airport, I found this pen illustrated with hangul in the souvenir shop. It was  7000 rupiah. Lucky.

It says
내 앞에서
웃어줬으면 좋겠어요.
I want you to smile for me when you’re around me.

기분이 나빠도
안 좋은 일이 있어도
나에겐 아무일 없다는 듯
웃어줬으면 좋겠어요.
Even when you feel annoyed, or bad things have happened to you,
I want you to smile and act as if nothing has happened.

마치 나만 있어도
행복하다는 듯이…
As if you’re happy just by being with me…

Huh? Sounds like it was written by a selfish person who can’t handle his/her partner’s negative emotions. A wish like this is not love.
Why am I reading this too deeply? 🙂

Next time I go to the airport, I’ll get another one with different hangul. ###

  1. Agreed! As I was reading and translating the Korean in my head (without reading your translations since I was testing myself), I thought that I was reading it wrong! What a selfish pen! lol =)
